We had to cancel the August Boat Day because Vista Point (and much of Jordan Lake) was still closed due to high water and flooding from tropical storm Debbie. But, you can make new plans to join your friends at Vista Point on Jordan Lake for a fun day of sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddleboarding. Pretty much anything that floats is welcome! Bring a picnic lunch, bring a friend, bring the kids, and enjoy the beach at Vista Point for a relaxing day of sailing, paddling, swimming, and socializing. This is the perfect event for our new members to make new acquaintances or members to bring a guest that might be interested in joining RSOC. It is also a great event to spend time with your kids. No experience is necessary.

Bring sunscreen, a chair, blanket and/or umbrella, a lunch and something to drink (note that the park prohibits alcoholic beverages). Vista Point has a sandy beach that’s great for relaxing when not in the water.

The only cost for this trip is the $7 State Park entrance fee ($5 for seniors), and they appreciate exact change. Please sign up in advance or contact the Trip Coordinator to let us know you are coming and so we can contact you in case of cancellation due to inclement weather. A minimum of five to six people are needed to help load and unload the boats. If we do not have enough people signed up by the Friday prior, the event may be cancelled.

The club has three Sunfish type sailboats, two stand-up paddleboards (SUP) and a tandem kayak that should be available starting about 11:00 a.m. Others with their own sailboat, powerboat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard are welcome to join us. If you would like to share your watercraft with other club members, please come out and help make the day even more fun.

Location/Directions: Vista Point at Jordan Lake, located at the end of N. Pea Ridge Road.. Take US 64 West toward Pittsboro. Cross over the lake and continue west until you reach N. Pea Ridge Road (first signal light after crossing the lake). Turn left at N. Pea Ridge Road. Continue to the end of this road terminating at the Vista Point Park area. The parking lots are on the left. We will be at the beach area near the gravel boat launch which is to the left of the parking lots as you look at the lake (where the grass ends and the woods begin).

End time: around 4:00 p.m.
