STEVE ROPER

We were so saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend and RSOC member, Steve Roper, on June 4. Steve was a great ambassador for the RSOC. He stepped forward to serve our club, holding the position of Ski Race Director for the most recent racing season. His enthusiasm toward building our race team showed immediate results, quickly growing the team, being a racer himself. In the mid 1990s, character, his faith, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and generosity. Steve created the RSOC co-ed recreational softball event, which continued in spring and fall seasons for 16 years. It’s fair to say that this event, which provided fun, laughter and camaraderie for at least a couple of hundred RSOCers, would not have existed but for Steve’s efforts to get it off the ground. As the tribute his wife, Terry, wrote for Steve expresses, “He was known for his warm heart, sense of humor, and the deep care he showed to those around him. . . . His many close friends lives’ were enriched by his friendship, enthusiasm, and generous spirit.” So, so, true.

Steve’s love and devotion toward his family — his lovely wife and our dear RSOC friend, Terry, and son, Christopher — was obvious and greatly admired. In Terry, Steve had a true champion and advocate, tirelessly working to find a means to provide Steve with the best care in his past challenging months — she is truly exceptional.

We extend our sympathies to Terry and Chris in the loss of Steve who will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong
